The Girl is one one main characters in every version of Close Your Eyes.
Appearance[]
The Girl has signature purple hair and a flowing light purple dress. Her actual name isn't known, neither is her age, though she appears to be rather young.
Biography[]
Background[]
The Girl was a resident of the Judith Manor, initially living in a happy home and having a strong relationship with her older sister, Rockette. However, life within their home became tenser and more unpleasant with time. Rockette eventually turned to drugs to cope with the situation, turning her into a different person and ultimately leading to their parents kicking her out and leaving the Girl behind.
Some time after that, the Girl's mother died, leaving her and her father emotionally devastated and in great pain. Her father would come and go from the house, spending less and less time with her, and she was all by herself for much of that time. One day her father brought home and strange child and told her to protect it. The Girl called the strange being "Little Marshmallow" (Marshmallow Monk) and took care of them like an older sister, making them breakfast and living a relatively peaceful life together.
However, the Girl longed for her mother again, and through some unexplained means convinced Marshmallow to help her enact a ritual to eventually bring her back. It is implied that she thrust the responsibility of killing people for this ritual onto them, and eventually felt guilty about forcing the burden on them. It is revealed that she told Marshmallow that she wanted to be of some use, and told them that they could kill her if he wanted to. In the end, Marshmallow killed the Girl at her request, breaking them emotionally. It is unclear if Marshmallow subsequently murdered the rest before or after they killed the Girl. Either way, they were soon arrested after the killings and sentenced to death by hanging, the one person they loved dead with the rest.
Close Your Eyes[]
The Girl's spirit was apparently not at peace, as her ghost is seen at various points through Close Your Eyes: Redux, and eventually will come after you to kill you if you decide to leave her.
The implications that she was left in a vegetable state rather than dead is mostly in the original Ludum Dare version of Close Your Eyes and in some other instances in the other remakes.
Feast Your Eyes[]
In Feast Your Eyes, an older "version" of her is encountered on Marshmallow's journey. Recognizing them as looking eerily familiar to "them", the Girl reads poetry to Marshmallow and teasingly calls them a creep. All the while, Marshmallow is extremely disturbed by her presence, uncomfortable that an older of her, the person whom they loved and killed, is before them, while at the same time wishing they could say something to her. The Girl becomes discomforted by their presence in turn, eventually telling Marshmallow that they have to leave.
A second encounter with the Girl leads to her and Marshmallow sitting down by a barrel fire and talking about her difficult childhood. The Girl tells Marshmallow a familiar story to them, about how she lost her mother when she was young and her father became absent more and more. One day he brought home a small child (this "iteration" of the Girl's Marshmallow) and told her to take care of them. She laments that she failed to take care of them and her adopted sibling paid with their life for her sins. She believed that she didn't deserve to be happy because of this, and then goes on to tell Marshmallow that in recent years her father came back for her to make amends and bring her into his new family. The Girl says that to this day she isn't sure how to feel about that, and shortly after she finishes her story she tells Marshmallow that they have to leave. Marshmallow acknowledges that they don't understand what's going on and don't know if any of this actually matters.
In Act 2, Marshmallow has a vision of them as Valerie tells them the story of "the spider and the fly". She angrily cries to herself about Valerie coming by and asking her about the "baby" (indicated to be the "other" Marshmallow). It is apparent that she feels guilty about something and possibly is upset that Valerie is questioning her ability to take care of Marshmallow. After this, Marshmallow's bloody eye socket (having lost their left eye to one of their resurrected victims) blooms an "eye flower" and they state that they are close to understanding, indicating that they may finally be starting to heal. Additionally, the Girl is seen running away in the distance from Marshmallow after they find a crib with a long dead version of themself.
